TRIMMING
TOOL SET
OBELISK SERIES
We believe pottery tools should be as well-crafted as the ceramics you make with them.
Our Obelisk Series features a hexagonal handle profile, a deliberate choice that gives your hand a fixed reference point, reducing unconscious adjustment during long sessions at the wheel.
Paired with precision tungsten carbide blades, these trimmers outlast standard steel tools many times over and hold a sharper, more consistent edge across the full life of the blade.
Tip material: Solid tungsten carbide (WC-Co)
Handle: PETG-CF (carbon fiber reinforced) · matte black
Profile: Hexagonal faceted, tapered obelisk form
Retention: Neodymium magnet array embedded in colour accent
Colour accent: Choice of 6
THE SET
The Obelisk Pear is a solid tungsten carbide trimmer built for serious work at the wheel. The Pear profile excels at broad clay removal and curved exterior walls. It lifts material cleanly in a single pass, with no drag and no chatter, once you find the angle.
The Seven profile is the workhorse of the collection. Its open hook geometry gives access to deep foot rings and steep interior walls where closed profiles can't reach. It removes clay aggressively on the pull and refines cleanly on the return.
The Obelisk Triangle Medium is a solid tungsten carbide trimmer built for precision work at the wheel. The triangular profile cuts on three edges simultaneously. It defines transitions, sharpens shoulders, and articulates the junction between foot and body with a clarity that rounded profiles can't achieve. It is the tool you reach for when the form needs a decision, not a suggestion.
The Obelisk Triangle Small is a solid tungsten carbide trimmer for the most precise work at the wheel. Where the medium Triangle sets transitions and defines shoulders, the small Triangle works at the scale of detail: narrow foot rings on small forms, incised lines, the kind of articulation that only becomes visible after firing.
The Obelisk Loop Small is a solid tungsten carbide trimmer built for refined work at the wheel. The small loop profile is for the work that happens after the broad forms are set: tight interior curves, narrow foot rings, the final passes that determine whether a piece reads as considered or unfinished.
About
Varadero Studio is a one-person practice based in Barcelona, working at the intersection of digital fabrication and studio ceramics.
The Obelisk Series came from a simple frustration: the tools available didn't match the standards I held for my own work. So I designed them. Tungsten carbide tips, carbon-fiber-reinforced handles, a hexagonal profile that stays where you put it.
Every tool is wheel-tested before it goes on sale and assembled by hand.
I also make ceramics. Utilitarian and decorative, thrown on the same wheel I use to test every trimmer. The two practices inform each other in ways that are difficult to explain and easy to see in the work.
